With the constant stress of school, it’s not uncommon to want a GCSE where you can pass without worrying too much. Whilst some people will always find some subjects more difficult than other people do, this list should hopefully help you figure out which subjects have the highest pass rate (and are, in theory, easier to pass)!

1. Modern foreign languages

With a pass rate of almost 90%, it’s clear that these are amongst the easiest to pass! Providing you learn the vocabulary required, it’s unlikely that the exams will be able to throw anything particularly awful at you. Similarly, if you learn enough complex structures then your writing and speaking components should easily hit the criteria for grades 4, 5 and above!

2. Sciences

Science subjects like Biology, Chemistry and Physics (alongside any Combined versions) are also some of the easiest subjects to pass at GCSE. This is due to the fact that as soon as you know the knowledge, there is very little exam technique that needs to be nailed. As long as you put in the work to learn the content initially, you should be fine once it comes to answering exam questions.

3. English literature

A subject that many students struggle to get top grades in, but is considerably easier to pass, is English Literature. As the exams are based around your interpretation of the texts, there is considerably more leniency than in other subjects. This means that even if your ideas are not the most obvious or even the best thought out, you should still get the marks as long as you can provide quotes to backup your points.

4. Music

Unlike many other new specification subjects, GCSE Music still has a practical component. This makes it much easier to pass as these assessments typically take place in situations which are a lot less stressful than exams. You can also practice for them with relative certainty of what will happen, therefore it is much easier to score highly in these than in exams. This can help to bump your grade up, making it relatively easy to pass.

5. Religious studies

Whilst it may seem like there is a lot of content to learn for GCSE Religious Studies, it is actually one of the easiest subjects to pass. Providing you can back up any points made with beliefs from different religions, the exam technique is not particularly difficult when it comes to essay questions. There are also some exam boards where the questions just rely on your opinion meaning that you can pass without knowing the detailed ins and outs of the different religions.

Of course, these aren’t the only subjects that are easy at GCSE and with the introduction of the new specifications it is unlikely we will be able to get the full picture until after results day this year. One thing to note is that whilst some people may find a certain subject easy, others will often find it particularly difficult due to different strengths and weaknesses. Providing that you work hard and revise for your exams, you stand a good chance of passing almost any GCSE exam!
